Apocalypse Tomorrow

Calendar 2012

In 2011 I came up with my “million dollar” idea. I became interested in the pin-up style particularly strong at the time. And as the pin-up is traditionally produced in the form of calendars, I decided to make a series of pictures in a calendar format. The upcoming year 2012 was the last in the Mayan calendar. So much was discussed and written about across media.

Rumors about the next doomsday were served as an excellent theme for the storyline of the series. Thus, the draft calendar in pin up style was called “Apocalypse Tomorrow.” Twelve months depicted the possible causes of the end of the world, and on the cover were the four horsemen of the Apocalypse replaced with the charming girl on a toy horse enveloped in flaming carousel.

I took Gil Elvgren’s paintings as the basis of the pictures. Yes, it was the first calendar... and after that, the floodgates were opened. At first I hadn’t planned to print it, but it suddenly became very popular on the Internet. People came crawling out of the woodworks, writing me and asking me how they could get a copy. Eventually a company made an offer to print and distribute the calendar, and of course, I gladly accepted.
